The lower section of the Mellisons’ vineyard, planted on the south shore of near the east end of Lake Chelan, features a 45-degree slope — hence the name for their blend of Riesling (70%) and Gewurztraminer created by talented winemaker Katy Perry. It comes with a clean nose of Bartlett pear, lime and dusty minerality, followed by bright and tingly flavors of yellow grapefruit and Granny Smith apple to balance the 1.5% residual sugar. Perry has established a delicious tradition with this proprietary blend, and while the 2011 vintages is no longer available at the winery, it’s still available in the town of Chelan at the Red Apple Market and Bear Foods. They suggest serving this at 45 degrees Fahrenheit, which makes it a delicious pairing with crab dip or a steaming bowl of pho.
