Sawtooth Estate Winery 2012 Classic Fly Series Tempranillo, Snake River Valley, $25
Idaho’s high-elevation vineyards in the Snake River Valley are quickly developing an award-winning reputation with this robust red grape from the Iberian Peninsula, and Melanie Smith’s latest interpretation earned her a double gold from West Coast judges at the 2014 Idaho Wine Competition. It comes with a dusky and smoky tones of black cherry, espresso and dark chocolate. The structure is plump and bold with assertive, yet refined tannins. Enjoy with paella that’s heavy on chorizo.
