Sonoma-based Michael Sebastiani continues to lord over the program at this Hood River, Ore., winery for owner Robb Bell, and he’s produced another stunning example of Barbera from Bolton Vineyard near Dufur, Ore. There are ample oak tones of dark chocolate behind the nose of blueberry and huckleberry, and the drink is rich and elegant with a purity of fruit. Flavors of blackberry and huckleberry are joined by bittersweet chocolate, sandy tannins and blueberry acidity. It’s delicious from start to finish. The 2012 achieved a rare double gold at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and the follow-up vintage picked up a gold medal at this fall at the inaugural Columbia Gorge Wine Competition.
