The Whitesides’ vineyard near Worden Road, first planted in 1998, has been a steady performer with clones 115, 667 and 777, and produces stunning results for Lynn Penner-Ash. Her 10-month French oak program, nearly half of it new, allows for aromas of blackberry and Bing cherry as well as darker tones of Aussie-style black licorice, truffle salt, earthiness and lilac. There’s a match on the palate with hints of chocolate-covered cherry, which leads to modest tannins and juicy acidity for an elegant finish. This was one of nine Pinot Noirs that she bottled from the 2012 vintage, and it ranks with her best.
