The Williamson family enjoys a storied history as orchardists on Idaho’s Sunnyslope, and those farming skills helped them develop a reputation with vineyards. While they sell most of their wine grapes, they’ve partnered with Greg Koenig as their winemaker. His gold medal at the Idaho Wine Competition with this blend of Rhône varieties Mourvèdre (50%), Syrah (45%) and Viognier was not a huge surprise considering his track record with Syrah. The rich nose is filled with ripe strawberry and black cherry, followed by chocolate and smoke — signs of 27 months in oak. It’s a mouthfilling fluid with blackberry flavors and chocolate undertones, finished with steady grip of tannins and a pinch of black pepper. Order a grilled ribeye, leg of lamb or pulled pork sandwich.
