Rachael Horn, an educator/writer who learned winemaking via Washington State University, is helping to lead the way in the Columbia Gorge from her winery on Underwood Mountain with her imaginative proprietary red blends from some of Washington’s top vineyards. This is a blend of Bordeaux varieties that leads with Malbec (44%) and Petit Verdot (28%), making for a wine that opens with a fruit-forward nose of Rainier cherry, red currant, pomegranate and pie cherry. It follows with flavors that are rich, dark and dense, featuring hints of black cherry and plum, backed by a medium structure of tannin and acidity.
