Winderlea Vineyard and Winery 2012 Dundee Hills Vineyards Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, $38
By Great Northwest Wine on November 4, 2014
Of the six expressions of Pinot Noir that Robert Brittan created for Bill Sweat and Donna Morris, this is the largest example from a beautiful vintage. It spent 10 months in an oak program of just 15 percent new French barrels, and it carries aromas of Bing cherry, Craisins, mocha, moist earth and well-worn saddle leather. Flavors of Montmorency cherry and raspberry reflect the sense of place so often found in Dundee Hills Pinot Noir with its high-toned red fruit, and there are accents of baker’s chocolate and tobacco. Mouthwatering acidity and suave tannins make this ideal with smoked salmon or duck breast in a cherry sauce.
