Argentine winemaker Juan Pablo Valot, who goes by JP, worked as an assistant to the state’s most famous winemakers prior to taking over at this historic Eugene-area brand. His excellence goes well beyond Pinot Noir, and he shows a deft touch with this food-friendly Bordeaux variety. He embraces the slight herbaceous nature of the grape, which shows itself as dried herbs among the aromas of Chukar Cherry, black olive, brown sugar, clove and rose petal. The drink is delicious with notes of dark plum, Van cherry and sweet herbs. Its rich entry transitions to a structure of bright acidity with moderate tannins.
