Ross Andrew Winery 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $40
Ross Mickel has kept some rather remarkable company throughout his career, which has included working at Canlis for a Master Sommelier (Rob Bigelow) and then a Master of Wine (Bob Betz). Here, the expanding Woodinville winemaker sourced from three of Washington state’s top Cabernet Sauvignon sites for this blend of Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun and Alder Ridge vineyards. A gentle use of oak shows in this classic Cab with aromas of ripe black cherry and cassis, followed by huckleberry, dusty minerality and Earl Grey tea. Dark red fruit flavors emerge with currant, cherry and dried strawberry, backed by soft tannins, and finished with cinnamon powder and cedar.
