Sommelier-turned winemaker Bradford Cowin partners with another sommelier — Fred Armstrong of the Ringside Hospitality Group in Portland — on this recently leased boutique label. Cowin started this Cab from Weinbau Vineyard while he was working for Long Shadows Vintners, and they invested 24 months in 50% new French oak barrels. There are aromas of blackberry, President plum and cranberry, backed by horehound, cedar, slate and porcini mushroom. It’s a mouthfilling drink of blackberry, blueberry and cherry that brings touches of vanilla, dark toast and Earl Grey tea amid tannins that feel similar to flannel. Enjoy with Duck Confit or well-marbled meats, and look for this wine at the Heathman, Jory at The Allison, Portland City Grill, Five Spice, Raven & Rose, Capers Cafe, Uptown Billiards, Brix, Acadia New Orleans Bistro, Great Wine Buys, Paley’s Place, Thirst Wine Bar and Cinetopia.
