Chelan Ridge Winery 2009 Cabernet Franc, Lake Chelan, $34
By Great Northwest Wine on November 26, 2014
Lynn Munneke uses fruit from her family’s 13-acre sustainably farmed vineyard along the north shore of Lake Chelan in Manson, where the view is stunning from their mountain lodge-themed tasting room, which they opened in 2010. Her Cab Franc is from fifth harvest off those vines, and while the nose doesn’t broadcast the herbaceous notes that many associate with this variety, it’s instead filled with black cherry, red currant and blackberry aromas among crumbled graham cracker and milk chocolate. There’s a bit of crushed herbs on the palate among the ripe cherry and plum flavors, surrounded by elegant tannins and capped with sweet spices.
