Westport Winery NV Shelter From The Storm, Washington, $30
Considering their location along the Washington coast, it makes sense for the Roberts family to offer a variety of fortified wines to help take the chill off and warm the cockles. This is nongrape blend of blackberry, blueberry and cranberry coats the glass with additional tones of cherry Tootsie Pop and cocoa. While the sugar finished out at 10 percent, there’s pomegranate tartness, dark chocolate roundness to the midpalate and a touch of tannin to create texture and balance. At the on-premise restaurant, they suggest ordering Frozen Peanut Butter Pie to enjoy with this fortified, and a portion of the proceeds go to to the Grays Harbor Hospital Foundation.
