By Great Northwest Wine on December 9, 2014
Underwood Mountain’s Rachael Horn has produced this blend of Bordeaux varieties for three vintages now, and the Gorge winemaker grabs from Washington’s Alder Ridge and Double Canyon to come up with Cabernet Sauvignon (43%), Merlot (29%), Malbec (14%) and Petit Verdot. Her use of new French oak (20%) gives it a dark theme of black cherry, black currant and Baker’s chocolate, capped by a rich tannin structure and finished with a dash of black pepper and splash of vanilla extract. While this wine earned a silver medal at the 2014 Columbia Gorge Wine Competition, she doesn’t plan to release her Boy until late this winter.
