This Meritage-style blend — named for the Latin term for sun and essence — leads with Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain and is viewed as the flagship wine created by one of Washington state’s top winemakers. Dark aromas of blackberry and black currant are joined by blueberry, coffee and Weetabix. The drink is bold with classic notes of black cherry, blackberry and black currant, backed by robust tannins and mouth-filling pomegranate acidity. There’s plenty of fruit and acidity to support those age-worthy and characteristic Red Mountain tannins, and it’s finished with pencil shaving and pipe tobacco. This wine was evaluated a month later, and it merited a gold medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Awards.
