Dusted Valley Vintners 2012 Wallywood, Columbia Valley, $42
Production is a bit down from previous vintages, but for the third straight bottling, Wisconsin boys Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel score our top rating with this GSM-style blend dubbed for their dual tasting room presence in Walla Walla and Woodinville. The components are Syrah (52%), Petite Sirah (24%), Mourvédre (16%) and Grenache from their go-to sites for this — StoneTree on the Wahluke Slope and Red Heaven on Red Mountain. There’s a dark presence to the balanced nose that hints at huckleberry and boysenberry with barrel notes of vanilla and toasted walnut. The drink is rich and delicious with flavors of black cherry and dark blueberry that are framed by sandy tannins and finished smoothly with bittersweet chocolate. This wine won’t be released until April and it will be highly coveted among the Stained Tooth Society, so act accordingly.
