Wine Press Northwest’s reigning Oregon Winery to Watch seemingly crafts her wines with one foot in the Loire Valley, and she often works closely with Herb Quady’s Mae’s Vineyard in the Applegate Valley to achieve these goals. Sundown Vineyard in the Rogue Valley, which has played a significant role in many Joe Dobbes wines, also contributes here. The nose is filled with red currant, President plum and cola, joined by black olive, exotic spices and some leafiness. A rich entry of dark cherry and currant flavors leads to a hint of sweet herbs and toasted cigar among a backing of plush tannins with lime acidity. Suggested pairings range from dry-rubbed BBQ meats to vegetarian dishes featuring broccoli and mushrooms to a variety of smoked cheeses.
