Marcus Rafanelli witnessed the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win then began making wine around the world, but before he left this Woodinville winery, he produced one of Washington’s most impressive reds released during 2014. His blend of Syrah (63%) from Red Willow Vineyard and Cabernet Sauvignon from Shaw Vineyard on Red Mountain spent 15 months in 60% new French oak — toasted to medium plus levels from Saury and Demptos. Remarkable aromas of blackberry, baked plum, chocolate and allspice set the table for luscious and mouthfilling flavors of black cherry, huckleberry jam and black raspberry. It’s supremely balanced with plum skin tannins, juicy acidity and finished with vanilla bean. The awards it has reaped include a Double Platinum from Wine Press Northwest and a double gold at the Seattle Wine Awards, and the previous vintage also received an Outstanding! from Great Northwest Wine.
