58. Dusted Valley Vintners 2012 StoneTree Vineyard Squirrel Tooth Alice, Wahluke Slope, $39

dusted-valley-vintners-squirrel-tooth-alice-labelSome of the Pacific Northwest’s most hedonistic wines emerge from this collaboration of grower Tedd Wildman with Walla Walla winemakers Chad Johnson and Corey Braunel. Their Rhône-style blend of Grenache (55%), Mourvèdre (40%) and Petite Sirah unleashes gamy aromas with blackberry, dark plums, black pepper, Dr Pepper and brambleberry leaf. That theme plays out on the palate that’s fruit-filled and spicy with dusty tannins. There’s plenty of complexity from the midpalate on back with notes of mincemeat, black licorice, black olive and cigar box. You’ll need to track this down via your favorite wine merchant because the Stained Tooth Society sucked it dry at the winery.
