Thanks to the late Walter Clore, the Miller family dipped its toe in the Washington wine industry in 1968 with a 3-acre test block of vines. They’ve since grown to 27 varieties across six blocks and 860 acres near the Rattlesnake Hills. While much of the Syrah gets siphoned off into his award-winning blends, fourth-generation farmer Marcus Miller adjusts the crop level for this bottling, which showcases notes of smoked bacon, mincemeat and baseball glove leather with blueberry, blackberry and coffee. Its lighter purple fruit structure offers juicy acidity with green tea tannins and a pinch of green peppercorn in the finish, which bodes well for suggested pairings with beef, lamb and aged Gouda cheese.
