This vintage marked Melissa Sanborn’s first bottling of Merlot from her family’s expanding vineyard along the Potlatch River in Juliaetta, Idaho, which is within the boundary of the pending Lewis-Clark Valley American Viticultural Area. Her husband, Mike Pearson, made the pick from these 15-year-old vines on Oct. 3, and they received beautiful oak treatment. It’s a fragrant wine with a theme of dusty Marionberry and elderberry, framed by ample tannins and juicy acidity. And it merited a silver medal at the 2014 Idaho Wine Competition.
