Palencia Wine Co. 2013 Sauvignon Blanc, Columbia Valley, $18
Victor Palencia’s work with these white grapes off the Frenchman Hills includes both stainless steel and Hungarian oak to create aromas of lemon, starfruit, passionfruit, lemongrass and fresh-cut celery. The drink brings a crisp entry of lemon and slate with some grassiness, lime and quinine on the midplate before a tropical finish that reveals a hint of residual sugar (0.8%). Suggested pairings include seafood and field greens. Those who can’t make it to his winery at the Walla Walla incubator complex may find this in the Tri-Cities at Mid-Columbia Wine and Spirits in Kennewick and Richland as well as the Yoke’s Fresh Markets in Kennewick and Richland.
