The Pines 1852 2012 McDuffee Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Gorge, $30
By Great Northwest Wine on January 20, 2015
Not long after he worked on establishing 2,000 acres for Columbia Crest in the Horse Heaven Hills, one of the first Columbia Gorge vineyards Lonnie Wright helped plant in The Dalles was McDuffee, which observed its 30th anniversary in 2014. And this bottling provides a lighter, juicy style of Cab as notes of cherry jam, plum, raspberry and lime peel show finesse and complexity with approachable tannins, dusty minerality and chocolate in the finish. It earned a silver medal at the 2014 Columbia Gorge Wine Competition.
