Kyle Mathison grew this Wenatchee Valley crop the summer after his father, TK — founder of Stemilt Growers — passed away at the age of 82. Kyle’s wife, Jan, has made the wine from the beginning with some guidance from Craig Mitrakul. Her Cabernet Franc shows no sign of slowing done, and it opens with aromas of black cherry, strawberry, root beer, black peppercorns and the varietally correct herbaceousness. There’s a juicy entry of more black cherry and strawberry-flavored Twizzlers, followed up by smooth tannins, pleasing acidity and pipe tobacco in the finish.
