Among the myriad non-grape wines created by vintner/mixologist Dana Roberts is this tasty blend of raspberry juice with chocolate flavoring. It works on many levels because of this acid-driven berry and the almost-universal appeal of chocolate. The nose hints at Marionberry, blueberry and dark plum, backed by coffee, chocolate and horehound. There’s a delicious fruit profile to the drink, which leads with bold flavors of raspberry and black currant. The surrounding of dark chocolate gives it a sense of tannin as mouthwatering tartness balances the residual sugar (10%), making it a fun quaffer. Wesport Winery’s on-premise Farm to Fork Restaurant pairs this to the Molten Chocolate Souffle with vanilla bean ice cream, and a portion of the wine sales head to the Westport Timberland Library.
