John and Lena Winter moved to Oregon’s Dundee Hills from Illinois in 1961, and the Gladhart family began transforming it into a 30-acre, Salmon-Safe vineyard in 1990. Block 10 is one of five single-block releases by Delphine Gladhart, and she nurtured the Pommard fruit into a wine that stands on equal footing with her 2012 Watershed, which ranked No. 52 on Great Northwest Wine’s Top 100 list for 2014. Dark and ripe aromas of blackberry, plum and raspberry truffle include clove, black pepper and vanilla. The drink is youthful and expressive, bringing flavors of ripe strawberry, raspberry compote and toast. Its round and delicious finish shows pomegranate, tobacco leaf and cherry candy.
