Oregon State grad Bryan Weil develops the wines with renowned Lynn Penner-Ash for Dr. Madaiah Revana, and here’s the most accessible production from a historic vintage off this estate vineyard. Of the 10 clones planted along the 80-acre site, eight are represented in this bottling, and they were picked at nearly 26 Brix from Sept. 28 to Oct. 19. A moderate barrel program of 11 months in 37% new French oak allows for a youthful nose of plump purple berries with hints of cream and nutmeg, backed by floral and herbal tones of violet, lilac and sweet pipe tobacco. The jammy structure opens with Marionberry and transitions to strawberry with lavender and cocoa. Velvety tannins and blueberry acidity leads to a finish of black cherry and vanilla bean.
