Finn Hill Winery 2013 Soleil Sauvignon Blanc, Wahluke Slope, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on February 4, 2015
Woodinville boutique winemaker Rob Entrekin shows a bit of flair and finesse with this blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon (15%) from historic Rosebud Vineyard. There’s the telltale gooseberry notes up front, chased by yellow grapefruit, lime, lavender, jasmine and white pepper. It turns toward apricot and green gage plum on the palate, joined by honeysuckle, orange and more lime. A small portion spent time in new French oak, accounting for its more delicate, less abrasive acid profile, but it will have enough to pair deliciously with pan-fried oysters. Other suggested fare includes pasta with alfredo sauce or quiche.
