Two Mountain Winery 2012 Copeland Vineyard Estate Merlot, Yakima Valley, $21
By Great Northwest Wine on February 8, 2015
The Rawn brothers’ Copeland Vineyard offers vistas of two mountains — Adams and Rainier — and this bottling of Merlot proves their site is starting to show its maturity. A barrel program of French, American and Hungarian oak, along with Cabernet Franc (9%), allows for generous aromas of sarsaparilla and cola with black cherry, plum and gorgeous herbal notes. It’s a bit darker and more fruit-forward on the palate, which is fashioned by delicious black currant, cherry and blueberry flavors. Well-managed tannins and good acidity finish with a pinch of wintergreen.
