Fujishin Family Cellars 2011 Syrah, Snake River Valley, $22

fujishin-family-cellars-syrah-2011-bottleMartin Fujishin grew up farming in the Snake River Valley, and this vintage marked the fifth anniversary of his own brand. His Syrah comes off Polo Cove Vineyard near the Sunnyslope Wine District, and it’s redolent of Baker’s chocolate, cocoa powder and ripe dark plum. The structure is bold and somewhat brooding with firm tannins and an elegant finish. This wine — awarded a silver medal at the 2014 Idaho Wine Competition — is available in his tasting room at the historic packing shed for Robison Fruit Ranch, and he’s set up to ship to Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Alaska and Washington, D.C.
