Methven Family Vineyards 2010 Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills, $33
By Great Northwest Wine on February 20, 2015
Fruit from this 30-acre site, planted in 2002 along the eastern edge of the northern Eola-Amity Hills, is helping a number of young wineries in Oregon and Washinton make headlines. Here, the Methvens’ winemaker, Chris Lubberstedt, shines with this elegant blend of certified sustainably farmed fruit. Aromas of strawberry-rhubarb pie, dark plum, cocoa and orange zest lead to elegant flavors of strawberry-rhubarb compote, backed by fine-grained sandy tannins and juicy blackberry acidity. Look for Allen and Jill Methven’s tasting room just south of the Monrovia plant nursery near McMinnville.
