The Miller family pulls Chardonnay from its County Line Vineyard, a block cropped to about 4 tons per acre and — at 1,100 feet elevation — is the highest spot among their 860 acres. Winemaker Marcus Miller has developed a strategy that includes a barrel program of 50/50 new and used oak, making for a nice theme of toast, almond, dusty apricot and mint. His approach to malolactic fermentation is a similar percentage to his barrel components, and that creates a nice creamy feel on the entry with a finish of fresh lemon juice and zest. Look for this at their home base of the Vintners Village in Prosser and their satellite tasting room in Woodinville.
