Inspired by the pioneering work at nearby Abacela, Jim and Terry Delfino made Tempranillo one of the seven varieties they planted across their 18 acres in Roseburg, Ore. Ashland winemaker Linda Donovan works with them on their juice, and they’ve created a robust red wine that’s balanced in every direction. The theme of dusty cherry, blackberry, loganberry, light toast and allspice comes with fine-grained tannins that build gradually with boysenberry acidity and a savory finish of black olive. The Delfinos enjoy their Temp with lamb and other Basque-theme fare, but a rare New York strip also would fit.
