Willamette Valley Vineyards 2012 Estate Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $30
Producers and consumers are reveling in the wines from the 2012 vintage, and this blend of Bill Fuller’s Tualitin Estate, the O’Brien’s Elton Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills and founder Jim Bernau’s site at the Turner winery is yet another example. It’s earthy and brooding with black truffle, black cherry, plump boysenberry and cinnamon powder aromas. On the palate, there’s a smooth, fruit-forward delivery of black cherry and black raspberry flavors, backed by moderate tannins and a finish of fresh cranberry and white pepper. Suggested pairings include cedar-plank salmon, Red Quinoa and Vegetable Stir-fry with Rosemary Chicken or a wood-fired pizza with roasted vegetables. This earned a gold medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Competition.
