This multi-generation operation in Oregon’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA continues to expand its bubble program, and the latest release furthers a tasty tradition with this grape so popular in Germany, a cross of Riesling and Madeline Royal. While the September rains of ’13 interrupted harvest throughout Oregon, there’s no slowing down of the lovely perfumy and tropical fruit aromas of lychee and papaya, backed by melon, pear, mint and minerality. The flavors lean more toward stone fruit of apricot and peach with pleasing mousse. Lemony acidity and lime zest easily cleanses the 1.5% residual sugar and leads to a slightly nutty finish. Enjoy with brunch or Asian fare with some heat, and these wines are available at their estate facility in Gaston and their young tasting room in downtown Carlton.
