seven-hills-winery-riesling-2012-labelBest Buy! Few folks think of Walla Walla when it comes to Riesling, yet here’s Casey McClellan’s dry expression using grapes from the Yakima Valley and acclaimed Evergreen Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley. Its florals include Red Delicious apple, cotton candy, peach blossom, petrol and lime. There’s tremendous acidity from start to finish with flavors of Granny Smith apple, nectarine, lime juice and spearmint. A squirt of tangerine in the back end adds just a hint of the sweetness (1.8% residual sugar), which explains the “off dry” reference on the back label.
