Bella Wines 2013 Sparkling Blanc de Blanc Chardonnay Single Vineyard Oliver East Side, Okanagan Valley, $24
One of the Okanagan Valley’s most decorated winemakers, Michael Bartier, began working with Cerqueira Vineyard along British Columbia’s Black Sage Bench soon after it was planted in 1999, and here Naramata Bench bubbles producer Jay Drysdale creates a beautiful single-vineyard sparkling wine from its Chardonnay. Aromas of dusty white peach, dried ginger and honeysuckle include freshly baked bread. There’s a fine thread to the bubbles, which bring a fun and frothy mousse bursting with Jonagold apple, Asian pear, white peach and golden raspberry flavors. All the while, the drink continues to push out mouthwatering acidity to create marvelous balance with the residual sugar (1.2%) and a touch of slaty tannin.
Rating: Outstanding!
