Basel Cellars 2010 Estate Claret, Columbia Valley, $20
By Great Northwest Wine on March 19, 2015
Oregon native Ned Morris made wine throughout the Walla Walla Valley before landing at this showpiece estate overlooking the Old Milton Highway. The approach to this blend of Bordeaux varieties includes Syrah (12%), and the nose is one of pleasing florals that range from dark blue fruit and cola to chai spice, mint and lilac. On the palate, it’s robust with blackberry, black cherry and pomegranate amid a medium-plus structure that achieves balance. This earned a silver medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Competition.
