O•S Winery 2012 SONAS Cabernet Sauvignon, Yakima Valley, $25
Sheridan Vineyard winemaker Scott Greer, one of the Yakima Valley’s cult producers, took on this Seattle urban program from founding winemaker Bill Owen with the 2012 vintage. He’s created a fascinating version of Cabernet Sauvignon, which he boosted with Merlot (21%), opening with a nicely balanced aromatic profile of Rainier cherry, red currant, Italian herbs, cola, and dark toast. That herbal theme also plays out in the background on the palate, which leads with plums, red currant and dark chocolate. Frontal tannins and pomegranate acidity give this nice heft to serve with hearty fare.
