Westport Winery 2012 Smoky Nor’wester, Yakima Valley, $26
By Great Northwest Wine on April 8, 2015
Coastal winemaker Dana Roberts blends Sangiovese and Petite Sirah into a stunning, youthful, complex and approachable drink. It opens with aromas of fresh cranberry, raspberry, pomegranate and a hint of buttered toast. There’s a rich entry of plum, black cherry and black raspberry with sandy tannins and juicy acidity, capped by a remarkable cranberry compote finish. This earned a gold medal at the 2015 Capital Food and Wine Festival Wine Competition.
