Cloudlift Cellars 2012 Ascent Cabernet Franc, Horse Heaven Hills, $27
By Great Northwest Wine on April 14, 2015
Seattle winemaker Tom Stangeland couldn’t keep enough of the 2011 vintage on hand at Capitol Hill home, so he’s doubled production of his Cabernet Franc from Alder Ridge Vineyard, and this might be his best effort to date. Hints of toasted oak don’t intrude on the aromas of black cherry, dark strawberry, sweet herbs and note of minerality found so often in Horse Heaven Hills wines. Inside, it’s a lovely structure of black cherry, cocoa powder and crushed herbs with pomegranate acidity, sandy tannins and toasted almond in the finish. Suggested pairings include Eggplant Parmesan, pork tenderloin and anything involving chicken.
Rating: Outstanding!
Production: 120 cases
Alcohol: 14.3%
