Patterson Cellars 2012 Late Harvest Roussanne, Columbia Valley, $22
John Patterson began making wine under his eponymous label 15 years ago in the Snohomish County town of Monroe. His subsequent success now allows him to operate two retail facilities in Woodinville, and his work with vine-frozen Roussanne from Willard Farms near Prosser is indeed decadent. Intense baking spices, apricot jam, rich honey candy corn aromas lead to bold flavors of peach, apricot syrup and powdered cinnamon. Its rich midpalate and wealth of residual sugar (20.5%) are joined by succulent acidity. This won a gold medal was was selected as the best dessert wine in the 2015 Capital Food and Wine Festival Competition in connection with the St. Martin’s University Alumni Association.
