Lopez Island Vineyards and Winery 2014 Siegerrebe, Puget Sound, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on April 21, 2015
Washington’s Puget Sound is home of some of continent’s top examples of this cool-climate grape, which translates to “victory wine” in German, and Lopez Island grower/vintner Brent Charnley continues his stunning tradition with this new vintage. Gorgeous tropical aromas of rosewater, lychee, clove and Ambrosia Salad with pear and apple. Fascinating complexity and lovely acidity allow for wide-ranging flavors of Granny Delicious apple, mango, dried pineapple and banana. The finish of fresh-cut celery and lime zest easily balances the 1.1% residual sugar and screams out for oysters.
