Spokane vintner Kristina Mielke-van Löben Sels continues to excel with her Meritage-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) from venerable Sagemoor Farms’ Dionysus Block 16, along with Merlot (20%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Malbec (4%) and Petit Verdot which spent 30 months in French oak. She shows a deft hand with the barrels as the nose hints at black currant, black cherry and strawberry with mild oak notes of milk chocolate. Those notes play out on the palate, which features a nice balace of sandy tannins, pleasing acidity and a long finish of President plum. The van Löben Sels enjoy pairing their annual, high-end blend with beef tenderloin marinated in a red wine/morel sauce. This earned a silver medal at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Awards.
