Apex Cellars 2013 Chardonnay, Columbia Valley, $17
By Great Northwest Wine on May 12, 2015
Prosser winemaker Ron Bunnell shows a flair for consistently producing a reserve-style Chardonnay that’s balanced and approachable. Lovely lemon aromas are joined by toasted oak, butter, peach and a bit of minerality. On the palate, it’s rich and buttery with flavors of grilled pineapple, apple and peach. There’s good lemony acidity and even a bit of peach skin tannin to add complexity, so those who enjoyed the 2012 vintage should also find a good home for this. Precept Wine had Bunnell increase production by more than a 1,000 cases over the previous vintage, and then the Seattle-based company dropped the retail price.
Rating: Excellent
Production: 3,750 cases
Alcohol: 13.9%
