Abiqua Wind Vineyard 2012 Isaac’s Reserve Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $25
By Great Northwest Wine on May 13, 2015
Pete Buffington names his top-shelf estate Pinot Noir for his first-born grandson, and this Silverton, Ore., grower/winemaker took full advantage of a stellar vintage. The beautiful nose leads with cherry juice, dark strawberry, toasted almond and dusty minerality, followed by flavors of strawberry-rhubarb jam and pomegranate. Its structure is filled with finesse and is capped by Montmorency cherry. The success of the growing season allowed Buffington to nearly triple his production of this wine from the previous 2011, and he’s maintained the retail price. This received a double gold and was voted best of class at the 2015 Savor NW Wine Awards.
