Walla Walla Valley grower Greg Basel established Pheasant Run Vineyard as part of the 85-acre Double River Ranch back in 2002, and this Right Bank-inspired blend of Merlot (57%) and Cabernet Franc is a marvelous example of the maturity displayed within the program. There’s a lovely greeting of dusty minerality and white pepper in the aromas that gather up fruity notes of Marionberry, plum, red cherry and elderberry. It’s a bold drink showing dark purple fruit balanced by fine-grained frontal tannins and blueberry acidity. Basel Cellars, which plans to open a tasting room in Woodinville, earned a silver medal with this blend at the 2015 Seattle Wine and Food Experience Wine Awards.
