Roland Wines 2013 Le Vignes de Marcoux Dolcetto, Yakima Valley, $20
By Great Northwest Wine on May 30, 2015
Acclaimed grower Mike Sauer established this site about a mile west of his family’s famed Red Willow Vineyard, naming it as a tribute to his mother — whose maiden name was Marcoux. He planted it to varieties less common in Washington state and sells the fruit in small lots to boutique wineries such as Marc Roland’s in Longview. His expression of this Italian variety, his fifth vintage of Marcoux, features a hedonistic theme of campfire marshmallows, dark plum and black currant jam with good richness on the palate and pleasing sandy tannins.
