Vidon Vineyard 2012 Hans Clone Pommard Pinot Noir, Chehalem Mountains, $50
By Great Northwest Wine on June 2, 2015
The Hagges — Vicki and Don — began transforming this Hillside Drive site in the Chehalem Mountains in 1999 and followed certified sustainable practices from the beginning. Their focus with this four-barrel lot harvested Oct. 22 shows enticing aromas of black cherry, huckleberry, plum and blueberry with notes of cinnamon, chocolate and minerality. That dark purple fruit profile continues onto the palate with pomegranate acidity and blueberry skin tannins, making for an elegant Pinot Noir these natives from North Dakota suggest serving with pork, veal, game and even desserts such as raspberry chocolate torte or hazelnut chocolate torte.
