The boys at Dusted Valley brewed up another couple of barrels of their GSM-style blend that’s an annual tribute to a wench well known to cowboys of the wild, wild West. They tap into the sweet spot of StoneTree Vineyard as well as Northridge Vineyard for the formula of Syrah (37%), Grenache (32%), Mourvèdre (27%) and Petite Sirah that’s cast within a program of 100 percent neutral oak. Unwrap a Hostess Berry Pie include a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you begin to get a sense for the aromatics, which also gather up purple plum, red cherry, black licorice, dark chocolate and slate. The pour brings virtually all of those descriptors into play on the palate, which is rich and thick with blackberry syrup, Bing cherry and blackstrap molasses. Cherry skin tannins and ample acidity make for a medium structure and a hedonistically long finish.
