Best Buy! More than a decade ago, Pete Buffington and wife, Marcia, traded their life as ranchers and commercial fishing along the Oregon Coast for this 11-acre vineyard near the Cascade foothills east of Salem. Today, the Buffingtons continue to grow their reputation with cool-climate wines at everyday prices, and this Edelzwicker-style blend from each white variety they grow includes Early Muscat, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris and Riesling and creates a highly aromatic and crisp wine. The fun nose hints at Ambrosia Salad, honeysuckle, yellow grapefruit, gooseberry and nutmeg. On the palate, there’s a constant stream of Granny Smith apple and grapefruit juice with river rock as the Riesling takes the lead. Delicious acidity easily balances the residual sugar of 1% and leads to round finish of apricot.
